So...
Overall, I was not let down. Though, I lowered the bar considerably between the end of last season and now, so that might have something to do with it. But my impressions were:
* My, you boys are pretty to look at. Lie detector scene was HOT.
* Oh, Sara. I want the old Sara back. The one who first showed up and wasn't going to take any of Neal's bullshit and suspected him of everything. Sara fangirling Neal incessantly is going to lose its appeal for me FAST. I'm really hoping she's playing him somehow and they'll have conflict. I think their chemistry thrived when there was conflict.
* Elizabeth, I like you a lot.
* Mozzie having been the one who hid the treasure was the predictable choice, the safe choice, and I'm hopeful it's a sign that the writers are recognizing and working within their limitation. Plot twist geniuses they are not. On the other hand, now we have Mozzie and Neal sitting on (and wanting to sell???) Nazi plundered loot. I can't think of a more poorly thought-out plot device. Do Eastin and the writers GET the blood that's on that stuff? Couldn't they have invented some legendary thief's secret stash and used that instead? In my head, I keep going back to that episode of Justified in S1 with the Hitler paintings, and how brilliantly the whole thing was handled at the end. I'd love to see the White Collar writers pull off an ending that acknowledges the vile means by which this stuff was stolen in the first place.
* Um, wow new kitchen at the Burkes'. It seems so very... ooc for them. I liked how comfortable and homey their house was. The kitchen just seemed all kinds of sterile and overly designed. It distracted me from the scene.
* Still not believing that exact piece of painting would have fallen exactly at Peter's feet unburned, but, whatever.
* Loved the fencing, loved Neal being so combative and testy. LOVED Peter keeping the severed tie.
* Willie Garson deserves better lines than he's given. (Although, I did very much like the exchange at the end - "J. Edgar Hoover." "Amelia.")
* Again, I'm not totally feeling the bad guy. (Also not feeling June's random granddaughter, LOL. What is that about?)
* Would Jones really tail Neal so obviously when he KNOWS what Neal is doing in that building? I hate it when the plot requires otherwise capable characters to be totally inept in order to move forward.
* On the other hand, definitely seeing the Jones/Neal potential. Silver lining and all.
* I get why the set up with the plane, but I would have liked to have seen them bring that fencing scene from the beginning full circle somehow.
* LOVE that Peter is still not taking Neal at face value. It's mirroring S1 very nicely, I think. Don't love that Mozzie and Neal are apparently cool with just fencing their Nazi loot like it's nothing, but I already mentioned that.
* So, overall, I was okay with most of it. I like the upset between Peter and Neal, and I like that Neal is poised for a bit of a fall. I'm hoping he gets it.And that fandom fills in the blanks with lots of lovely h/c. I hope that the Sara/Neal stuff gets more interesting. I hope Alex comes back this season, because I like her tons. I hope Elizabeth warms up the kitchen a bit.
