Feb. 10th, 2011 12:28 am* Watched the Justified season 2 premiere tonight. Oh, yes. I can't possibly list all the things I love about this show. But I will include a few spoilerish thoughts behind the cut.
♥ Boyd! So happy to see Walton Goggins as a regular cast member this season. He's fantastic in that role. It's really hard to take a character that makes such a vile first impression and make him so very compelling.
♥ The Bennett family. Mags is the perfect combination of grandmotherly sweet and bone chilling, and I love the family's chemistry with Raylan. Looking forward to seeing more of them this season.
♥ Rachel. I like that they don't sugarcoat the difficulties she runs into as a black female marshal working in good old boy country. I've loved her since she called Raylan out on his hat (and the exercise of white male privilege it represents) last season. But it's not overdone, either. There's kind of a perfect balance there that makes it ring true.
♥ Winona. I just love everything about Winona. I also love everything about Ava. It's sadly refreshing to see so many layered female characters in one show.
Really, I think the boyfriend had it right on tonight when he said that the writing is just better than television. It feels like I'm watching a story instead of an episode. The little details all over the place just make it.
* My
hp_nextgen_fest fic progress has sort of ground to a halt. I know the story I want to tell, but finding a long enough stretch of time to sit down and sort my thoughts into the right order? Not happening. I have 11 days to finish. Meep.
* RIP Brian Jacques. We've loved the Redwall books here. And the television series. He had a wonderful, rich imagination and a beautiful way with words.
