Back from Deathly Hallows Part 1!!!!!!!
Nov. 22nd, 2010 04:57 pmThere are no words for how much I loved this movie. So beneath the cut I repeat myself. A lot. A whole lot.
Steve Kloves and David Yates did an amazing job. I know it's an unpopular fandom opinion in a lot of parts, but I loved the book, so I wasn't expecting the movie to measure up so well. I'm shocked at how much they managed to include, even though I did miss a few things.
* Hermione and her parents. Oh, heartbreaking. When she disappears from all the pictures I just wanted to sob for her.
* Aunt Petunia's face in the car was brilliant. She didn't have to say a word there. Like others on my flist, I missed Dudley's goodbye to Harry, but overall I loved that scene.
* Malfoy Manor. OMG. So much to love. Snape was incredible. The look in his eye. *dies* Charity Burbage broke my heart. So much scarier than I'd pictured it. And poor broken Lucius cowering when Voldemort broke his wand.
* The Seven Potters scene was so well done. I liked how they brought Bill's storyline right up to speed with that quick introduction. I wish they would have done just 30 seconds more of Remus and Tonks. Madeye was fabulous in that scene. And OMG, how much do I love Mundungus Fletcher? A WHOLE LOT, that's how much.
* Hedwig was even sadder than in the book, I thought.
* Intense!Remus at the Burrow was great.
* Fred stroking George's hair during the "saint-like" scene killed me dead. DEAD.
* George's face when he interrupts Ginny and Harry. OMG. Love him.
* Anybody else notice the dreadlocked boy at the wedding? I choose to believe that was Lee and refuse to entertain a thought otherwise.
* Obviously I will complain about missing Charlie. I would have loved the bit with Molly forcing him to get a haircut to have taken place in the background.
* The diner scene was fabulous. The hexes almost sounded like gunshots the way they slammed into the walls and the glass. Dolohov was very nice to look at.
* NEVILLE ON THE TRAIN WAS MY VERY FAVORITE THREE SECONDS OF THE MOVIE. /capslock. Oh, brave, strong Neville! <3<3<3
* Kreacher and Dobby bringing back Dung to Grimmauld was great. I haven't been a fan of the elves in other movies, but I really enjoyed them here.
* The Ministry scene was great. Loved Ron saying, "But my wife is all alone in the basement!" Umbridge's office was freaking creepy. I agree with the fandom consensus that Yaxley is yummy.
* I missed Lee's radio hijinks a lot while they were on the run. He's one of my absolute favorite book characters and I do wish he would have shown up.
* I loved the camping scenes. They were beautiful and so much what I'd imagined while reading.
* Really loved the dancing between Harry/Hermione and was expecting to hate it. I thought it was very well done. The look on Emma's face when she rested her chin on Harry's shoulder was so "Oh, Ron" that it broke my heart.
* Godric's Hollow was scary. Bathilda was just the creepiest old thing ever, and I jumped in my seat when Nagini came shooting up at the end.
* The doe/sword/Ron coming back/horcrux scene was excellent. Ron really came into his own there. (And, um, wow, grown up Rupert Grint is not hard on the eyes AT ALL.)
* Again I agree with the consensus that Snatcher!guy is totally hot.
* Malfoy Manor again was perfect all around. Luna in the dungeon. I love her. Just a few lines and she steals the scene. Bellatrix was INCREDIBLE. Oh, just wow. And Draco was perfect. He looked so scared. Desperate Lucius was great too.
* Hermione's torture was wrenching. Emma was fantastic. The screams were chilling. And I was so sad when Dobby died, even though it was clearly coming.
* Young Grindelwald was lovely.
* Voldemort taking the wand was a perfect ending. Such a great set up for the last movie. Which comes out near my birthday! Squeeeee!
