Insert Witty Title Here

I'm headachey tonight, and very antsy waiting for news on the NY marriage equality bill, and not up to making a post of any great intellectual significance, so we'll talk about fluffy TV instead. Burn Notice is back! My summertime happy place! FLAIL!

BURN NOTICE! Spoilers ahoy. )

So, um, why do the guys on Suits look so much alike? Seriously, I can't tell them apart. I kind of like the show, though. The writing is smarter than a lot of USA shows. And Gina Torres. I might give this one a chance.

My hair blows long as I sing into the wind

* THE SUN CAME OUT TODAY. YOU GUYS. THE SUN.

It was nice. So we walked.

* Also, I ate mostly green things. So I feel good. And a cookie. Which made me happy. And now I have wine. Which makes me very happy.

* Still catching up on the middle of the season of H5-0. Grace Park, why are you so pretty? And when will I stop calling you Boomer? I don't even know.

* I had to return Treme to the library before I finished the first season. *sigh* I just don't have that many hours in one week to watch TV. But hopefully they'll have it again when I go back so I can get it out. Our library is pretty awesome, so I'm hoping so.

* Speaking of our awesome library, their budget failed by a couple hundred votes last week. HOW DO WE LIVE IN A WORLD THAT WON'T PASS LIBRARY BUDGETS? Seriously, it makes me weep. (First world problems much?)

* Finishing up this SS/HG ficlet as we speak. I kind of like it, actually. It's dark and moody, sort of like the SS/HG phase I went through 3 or 4 years ago. I miss them, sometimes, my Snape and Hermione. <3

* The goal for this weekend is to write my [livejournal.com profile] nextgendarkfest fic. I know exactly what I want to write, it's just putting it down on paper that is getting in the way. Maybe the SS/HG piece will put me in the right dark mood.

* Let me leave you with music tonight, flist. Eldest hellmonkey homeschooled Greek studies this year, so this is sort of relevant:

Think of the shorelines you have yet to see

* So I stayed up to watch Matt Bomer on Jimmy Fallon last night, even though I almost never do that. Do people really watch these shows every night? I finally had to turn the sound down until Matt came on because it just... wasn't funny. I found it grating. And I don't dislike Jimmy Fallon. But ANYWAY, the point of all that is About the White Collar clip )

* The migraine that started with visual disturbances yesterday morning has finally kicked in this morning. I am trying to kill it with caffeine, which could very well mean there will be several posts from me by this afternoon. ;-)

* Started reading Blind Sight by Meg Howrey. LOVE IT so far. The family interactions remind me very much of Alice Hoffman and the point of view is fresh and interesting. It's a new book at the library, though, so I only get it for 7 days. Hopefully I'll be able to finish it in that time.

* I started this ages ago and now it's almost noon and I haven't even posted yet. Slow!me today.

* Today's writing goal is to finish my White Collar exchange fic and reward myself by polishing up that SS/HG ficlet I've been toying with. [livejournal.com profile] thistle_verse, are you still up to check that one over for me?

* Speaking of writing, I'm feeling much better about it today. Thank you for supporting my wibbling yesterday, flist.

* What's making you happy today, flist? Tell me!

Things and Stuff

Things from my day:

* Still dark and cloudy, but it stopped raining, so I walked to the library and then to the corner store and finally got out of the house. The relief is tremendous.

* Watched 500 Days of Summer last night. It was cute and I always enjoy Zooey Deschanel and JGL, but the narration didn't work for me--especially not with the heteronormative overtones in the beginning--and the apartment sets seemed terribly over decorated, like they were snapshots from the Apartment Therapy blog.

* My city's library system is awesome because I picked up season 1 of Treme there today. I knew it was going to be good, but oh, wow, it's really good. The kind of thing that makes all other television look somehow less. <3 Melissa Leo.

* Writing. I want to finish both my [livejournal.com profile] numb3rs_novella and my WC exchange fic this week. I have all these long fics that are unfinished and I think I really just need to buckle down and start knocking them out.

* Somewhat related note: I'm working on a moody little SS/HG piece that should be done either tonight or tomorrow. ([livejournal.com profile] chillit, I never got that prompt to work for me, unfortunately, but hopefully this will make up for it?)

* Alice in Wonderland is like a parade of actors I love all the way through, starting with Marton Csokas in the very first scene. <3

* Knitting project is progressing, I think. So far so good. I think I'll be acquiring a sewing table soon which will be excellent because then I can get back to doing projects.

* I've been reccing Ron/Draco at the [livejournal.com profile] crack_broom this month. When I'm finished, I'll post a list of all the links here. I've found a couple of little gems that I'd never read before and it's been a lot of fun. Reccing a great excuse to sit down and read fic, when I'd otherwise be able to convince myself I didn't have time.

* Speaking of, does anyone have any Hawaii Five-O recs for me? Steve/Danny or gen or anything, really. What do you guys like?

* How was your Wednesday, flist?

* So I was poking my nose around the internets last night reading reactions to the season finale of Hawaii Five-O. I thought it was a fun show, but being new to the show/fandom, I was curious to see the general reaction. And I noticed something that I wanted to comment on.

Spoilery behind the cut )

So, to sum up, I enjoyed it, and I think I'll make time for this show when it comes back in the fall.

* White Collar comes back in a couple of weeks. I have decided that I'm going to enjoy it for what it is this season, and just handwave the rest. We'll see how that works out. ;-)

* I'm nervous about this little knitting project I've started. It's probably the most complex thing I've tried to do, and it's not for me. I foresee a lot of ripping out stitches in my future.

* Hellmonkeys are building a TARDIS. Apparently we suffer from a lack of blue legos and that needs to be rectified immediately.

* Speaking of hellmonkeys, eldest is sitting here making notes for her novel. She makes me feel like a total hack. (Also, she scored out of the park on her standardized reading test at the end of the year. /proud)

* I don't know if I've mentioned it, but [livejournal.com profile] ellensmithee and I signed up for the [livejournal.com profile] het_bigbang. We'll be writing Supernatural fandom, Kali/Gabriel. Just to prove we are not completely one trick ponies, I guess.

* What should I make for dinner tonight, flist?

* Reading: "Revenge of the Radioactive Lady" by Elizabeth Stuckey-French. Pretty fun so far. And it's a fairly fast read.

* Handwork: Starting a knitting project today. I hope. I suppose that depends on whether or not the toddler is going to let me do it.

* Writing: Last night I got a good bit done on my White Collar fic, my [livejournal.com profile] numb3rs_novella, and my [livejournal.com profile] teddy_fest fic. One of those is turning out to be a bit after school special-ish. But I'm feeling all sorts of productive nonetheless. Also? My [livejournal.com profile] crowley_bigbang, which is a crossover I haven't talked about too much, has decided to go all Draco/Hermione on me

* Watching: Finally started catching up on Hawaii Five-O. So far, everything you guys have told me about it has proven true. I'm putting my disbelief on hold due to the incredible amount of chemistry going on with the cast. Definitely not hard on the eyes. Also watching a TON of Doctor Who with the kids. They want to catch up on all of Eleven's episodes, and we've been watching a bit of Four on Netflix as well. (Brought on by a "Back in my day..." moment.)

* Cooking: I dunno yet. It might be a pizza night.

* Listening: Because I'm all thematic today, some music to share:

Dar Williams and Ani DiFranco covering Comfortably Numb:

* Hope you're all having a much sunnier Monday than we are here. Third straight day of rain. Blergh.

* So, first of all, I made this for dinner tonight, because it's my throw-together comfort meal and, like, the most delicious thing ever. And everybody in the house loves it. Which is rare. I'm feeling very sated now.

* Also, while I'm feeling linky, I got these for Mother's day. They are so cute. I need to put up a kitchen shelf to show them off.

* I'm a few hundred words away from hitting the minimum word count for my [livejournal.com profile] numb3rs_novella, which got me excited last night, until I realized that I'm only about half way through what I've outlined (yeah, I'm actually writing this one with an outline). Note to self, word count =/= end of story. Anyway, writing romance is hard. I just hope I'm not failing spectacularly at it. I worry. For some reason, I really, really, really want this story to be perfect.

* I have two other fest fics that I'd like to finish, or mostly finish, this weekend. Which means a lot of writing. One is for the White Collar exchange and the other is for [livejournal.com profile] teddy_fest. I've been completely sucked into both of those.

* Writing for the [livejournal.com profile] luciusbigbang with [livejournal.com profile] ellensmithee is so much fun, OMG. I know it won't be posted until a million years from now, but I can't wait for you guys to read it.

* Spoilery casting news for Sons of Anarchy S4 ) September, come faster, OMG.

* How much do I love Deputy Tim Gutterson? Sometimes I just feel like that needs to be said.

* Last night's Community. Spoilers behind the cut ) I still have to catch up on Parks and Rec and The Office.

* So, what are your weekend plans, flist? Anything exciting?

* Writing away. I'm shelving the [livejournal.com profile] crowley_bigbang for a couple of weeks (I'm almost done, but I'd kind of like to ride this season out before filling out the ending) since there are a few smaller fics due for exchanges in the next month or so. One is White Collar, and there are a couple HP as well. Still working on my [livejournal.com profile] numb3rs_novella, and I'm pretty happy with the stride I've hit. It's a totally different kind of story than what I'm used to writing.

* I'm reccing Ron/Draco at the [livejournal.com profile] crack_broom this month! OMG, yay! It's giving me a great excuse to dive back into reading some HP fic that I would have otherwise passed by recently.

* Speaking of reading, I'm compiling a list of things I want to read on [livejournal.com profile] spn_cinema, but I haven't had time to sit down and dig into any of them yet.

* Okay, so, I think enough time has passed since Wednesday night that I can finally put together coherent thoughts on television.

* MY SHOOOOOOWWWW! Justified, long, with spoilers for the season finale )

To sum up, I think I'm totally ready to start writing some of this fic out of my head. That's what this summer will be for. Otherwise, I'll go nuts waiting for next season.

* The Vampire Diaries. I am so done with this shit. Seriously. Ick. Not totally spoilery, but. ) To make it worse, I caught up with what I've been missing on Community and I'm wondering WTF I was thinking this year. Needless to say, next week, I'll be watching part 2 of A Fist Full of Paintballs. Part 1 was so brilliant.

* Parks and Recreation spoilers )

* Looking forward to Supernatural tonight.

* Was going to take a long walk today, but I've got several sick hellmonkeys, so I think we're stuck indoors. Suck. Hopefully they'll be well enough to trek it to the Tulip festival for Mother's Day.

I haven't had time at all for a real post this past week.

* Hope my flist had a lovely Mayday.

* Hit 14k on my [livejournal.com profile] crowley_bigbang. The minimum is 15k, so I'm feeling really confident about turning in my draft in a couple of weeks. I'll probably finish it up on the next few thousand words.

* Other than that, I'm just not terribly interesting these days. Been writing some TVD fic with [livejournal.com profile] ellensmithee. Will post links here when we've finished (it's two three-part series). We also have a [livejournal.com profile] luciusbigbang to write together. Yay for co-writing!

* Oh, and there has been tv. I have thoughts on that. Things I watch (spoilers ahoy):

Justified )

The Vampire Diaries )

Supernatural )

Dr Who )

* Reading Bossypants by Tina Fey. Oh my god, I'm just dying. I am so totally in love with her. And laughing so hard that I'm crying.

* Making baked pasta for dinner. Yum. And I have beer. Saranac black forest. Yum yum.

* Our copy of Deathly Hallows pt 1 arrived today. Finally. So many things I love so hard about this movie.

* The Office last night made me teary-eyed. Love the episodes written by Mindy Kaling to begin with, and this one delivered. Also, Parks and Rec. April and her dead birds. <3

* For Love is Strong as Death was completed yesterday. So if you blew off my multiple recs because it was a WIP, go, now, and read. The characterization is just outstanding. Supernatural. Sam/Gabriel, Dean/Castiel. 50k. You'll never want it to end. Seriously. (I love this story to a ridiculous degree.)

* I stayed up late last night writing and I'm not feeling it today, which is lovely. I hate paying the price for taking advantage of those creative bursts.

* Today I scrubbed the bathroom and kitchen. It's amazing how productive I feel when I manage to get those two things done.

* Weekend, weekend, weekend. Huzzah! We're going to watch The Life of Brian and zombie movies this weekend. And hopefully I'll finish my [livejournal.com profile] numb3rs_novella.

* Still on book 4 of the Stackhouse books. Enjoying it very much, I've been writing more than I'm reading just now, so it's been a bit slow going.

* Oh, I got new clothes! Grown up clothes! I can has adult linen things! To quote the boyfriend, "Oh, you are fancy." Seriously, guys, I owned like two pairs of jeans and one of them had a tear perilously close to the ass. And a whole bunch of t-shirts, most of which are inappropriate and have been packed away now that the children can read. ("Spooning leads to forking" is my favorite.)

* Any big plans this weekend, flist?

SQUEEEEEAL

There will be spoilers beneath the cut. And flailing. FLAILING.

JUSTIFIIIIIIED )

Flist, honestly, more of you have to start watching this show because you're missing out. It's like watching something so much better than tv. I don't even know the last time I fangirled something this hard. As you can tell by the abuse of italics.

Also, I've been rewatching some Numb3rs eps in order to work on my [livejournal.com profile] numb3rs_novella and OH, I miss that show with a deep, deep achiness.

Also, did anyone on my flist see Breaking In the other night?

<3333333333333 Christian Slater. OMG. LOVED IT.

I'm also loving that it fits right in between Modern Family and Justified. I usually don't watch more than an hour of television in a sitting, but Wednesday nights are clearly going to become an exception.

Okay, *sigh*, back to work.

* [livejournal.com profile] ellensmithee and I started plotting out our Lucius big bang. OH my goodness I'm so excited. Maybe I just needed to get my head wrapped around some new material.

* I did drop out of one fest. Had an awful brainspace meltdown over the weekend and I realized I just couldn't do it all. So I lightened my load a bit and that helped.

* Nearly done with my Crowley big bang. I'm at a point now where I can take it slowly, which is good. I've been working a lot more on original lately and pretty much everything is coming out at a snail's pace.

* I've got a bit of a Justified fic roaming around inside my head at the moment. Something really brief, just a stream of consciousness. But it's like I can't stop hearing Mags' voice.

* New Vampire Diaries tonight.

Vampire Diaries spoilery thoughts 2.17 )

* The littlest hellmonkey is watching Scooby Doo and the Goblin King. This would be so much more enjoyable if it were David Bowie's Goblin King. *sigh*

* A little over half way through the third Sookie Stackhouse book. Alcide. Oh my. Seriously, you guys know that I'm way more of a werewolf girl than a vampire girl. I'm terribly partial to Sam, but Alcide is just... guh. So far I'm enjoying this book MUCH more than the first two.

*Spring cleaned today. Got the living room and dining room in splendid order. Got rid of a TON of clutter. Breathe, breathe, breathe.

* Windows open. Bathroom and kitchen scrubbed down. I want to purge the toys from this house. I have baskets to sort through. Later we're going to wash all the snowpants and tuck them away. Heavy coats will stay out for another 2-3 weeks. Spring, please be here for good.

* Yesterday at the grocery store cute check-out boy caught me off guard by noticing my shirt (it says "art as activism") and asking who my favorite artist is. A question I cannot answer with just one name. On the spot, I blurted out "Judy Chicago!" Hi, my name is Rilla and I love vagina art. LOL. /dork. I mean, I do love vagina art, but did the check-out boy need to know this about me? Probably not. (I say "boy" because he was in his early twenties at best, and I am clearly an old lady now.)

* Eldest wants to take a summer course at one of the local colleges for middle school/young high school students (how is she old enough for that??? I don't know.). She's undecided on sculpture or stop-motion animation. What she really wants is performing arts, but alas, she'll be at Girl Scout camp that week.

* Second eldest is reading through the Death Note series like they're nothing at all. Every few days we're at the library picking up 2 or 3 of them. He is so me at that age.

* I'm feeling the pull of original tugging me away from fanfic again. I think it's a result of signing up for so many lengthy, plotted fics. It's got me thinking in long-term storytelling.

* That said, I'm still very much enamored with the fic I'm writing at the moment, and in particular, I'm looking forward to being able to "reveal" what I wrote for [livejournal.com profile] hp_nextgen_fest. And I also signed up for [livejournal.com profile] nextgendarkfest because I saw a prompt that I could. Not. Resist. Darkfic has been in my head lately. Deeply, deeply. More on that to come.

* Last night's Justified. *flail* I can't even. I just. God. Finally a show with strong women all over it. *FLAIL*

* Steve Martin's tweets are very often the highlight of my day. Seriously, I think the medium of Twitter was invented for that man.

Things I love right now:

♥ Psych. OMG, so much. So, so, so much. It was one of those shows I was always meaning to watch but never caught, so I'm catching up slowly (I saw the last few eps of this past season) from the beginning. Relatedly, I love Netflix streaming video.

♥ Green foods. Oh my goodness. Remember Larry's obsession with white food on Numb3rs? Yeah. I've been like that with leafy green things. I've been eating kale by the ginormous bagful. With garlic and salt and olive oil. OMG, yum.

♥ Writing fic. OMG, so in love with fic writing right now. I'm 2000 words into my [livejournal.com profile] crowley_bigbang. It's an HP crossover and I'm super super excited about it. I have to rewatch Garage Days before I can start on my [livejournal.com profile] spn_cinema fic, which will be a total hardship because it's not like that's one of my favorite movies of all time or something. /sarcasm. And I also have to watch a few choice episodes of Numb3rs before starting my [livejournal.com profile] numb3rs_novella fic.

♥ Justified. Just utterly and completely head over heels in love with this show, and every character on it.

♥ Being Human. Both the US and UK versions. I love all the similarities, and the differences, and both casts are so wonderful. I love it that each version has different strengths, and they totally play to those strengths.

OK, book meme that's going around:

The book I am currently reading: I never read one book at a time. Still working my way through Crazy Sexy Diet. Also reading: Clean Food by Terry Walters, Djibouti by Elmore Leonard, Red Riding Hood (the novelization of the film) and Shiver by Maggie Stiefvater. Also reading Pippi Longstocking aloud to the little girl.

The book I am currently writing: It's about werewolves. And a girl. And her brothers.

The book I love to read the most: The Great Gatsby. Not even a contest. (I'm actually wearing an F. Scott Fitzgerald shirt right now.)

The last book I received as a Gift: Red Riding Hood

The last book I gave as a gift: The Vladimir Tod books 1-4 boxed set (by Heather Brewer), given to eldest hellmonkey for her birthday. ETA: I take that back! It was actually When I Grow Up by Al Yankovic, given to youngest hellmonkey for his birthday last month.

The nearest book to me: I'm right next to a bookshelf with about 150 books on it. So to pick one at not-so-random, we'll say The Hot Kid by Elmore Leonard.
