I haven't had time at all for a real post this past week.
* Hope my flist had a lovely Mayday.
* Hit 14k on my
crowley_bigbang. The minimum is 15k, so I'm feeling really confident about turning in my draft in a couple of weeks. I'll probably finish it up on the next few thousand words.
* Other than that, I'm just not terribly interesting these days. Been writing some TVD fic with
ellensmithee. Will post links here when we've finished (it's two three-part series). We also have a
luciusbigbang to write together. Yay for co-writing!
* Oh, and there has been tv. I have thoughts on that. Things I watch (spoilers ahoy):
Justified
Oh, God, I love this show. Margo Martindale is so unbelievably amazing, I can't even. God. And Jesus, Tim Olyphant. And oh, oh, oh, Helen. I loved the conversation between Boyd and Raylan that ended with Boyd offering to have Raylan call him once he found Dickie. It was so perfectly Boyd to interpret that as an act of friendship while Raylan is just giving him a "WTF?" and shrugging it off. LOVED Ava and her shotgun. I love the way they worked up to Helen passing a kind of torch to Ava in the previous episodes. And Mags and her family, man. She is so fucking scary. I really hope she stays on the show and survives the season.
The Vampire Diaries
Oh, trainwrecky show. You are so trainwrecky. At least Jules was back (even if she's pretty much dead meat). And there was some nice Tyler/Caroline/Matt stuff going on. Poor Matt. At least he finally seemed to get his ass in gear and realize she was worth saving, not staking. (I've noticed that I use "at least" when describing this show in the same way I use "I love" when describing Justified.) Not that Damon being all rapey and controlling!abuser is news at this point, but really? Again? This is the thing: When your plots have already been done in other canons, you have to do them better, not worse. They seem to manage this with the Twilight stuff, but with other canons, not so much. Because, man, Eric was way smoother tricking Sookie into drinking his blood. And when Kate Beckinsale was dragging Scott Speedman's hybrid corpse inexplicably from scene to scene in Underworld Evolution, there was a hell of a lot more pretty and that lovely soft core porn scene to distract from the plot's shortcomings. Not to mention the actual weapons being used, and people really dying at the hands of the bad guys. So far, I'm not getting why Klaus is the scariest vampire of all.
I enjoy the Alaric/Damon bromance a whole lot, but dude, the guy just assaulted one of your students and staked her boyfriend. Maybe at least give him a talking to before pledging your undying allegiance to him again?
I feel about the Elena/Stefan hiking scenes as most people felt about the DH camping scenes. That is all.
One more thing I don't get. Why have Katherine draw Jenna out because he needed a vamp? Wouldn't it have been easier to just grab the first person they crossed on the sidewalk? I guess there's the argument that Klaus wants to cause maximum angst for Elena (which, why?), but if that's the case, using Jules as the werewolf doesn't make sense. Tyler should have been the one who was hidden better.
Also, Ian Somerhalder, you are very pretty, but spending 80% of the episode making crazy eyes at the camera is not acting. Why does he do that so much now? It's not sexy when it crosses the line into repetitive facial tic. I have a hard time even looking at him when he's on screen lately.
Supernatural
Let's see if I can put together something that's not incoherent squee.
CROOOOOWLEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY!
Okay, clearly not. Oh, I loved this episode from start to finish. Loved them pulling the bait and switch with the whole Mother plot and making it all about something bigger while tying various threads from the season together. (TVD writers, are you taking notes?) Bobby was awesome, as always. The fanservice, oh. I have a lot of SPN ships, but I adore Dean/Cas, and damn, if they're not canon.
The "Bite me" line was a fantastic way to take Eve out. (Even if I kinda want to read Dean/not!Mary in a very dark and twisted way now.)
I love that Cas is getting such a dark, interesting plot now. Cas is fantastic to watch anyway, but now I'm reminded that Misha can act.
And did I mention CROWLEY??????!!!!!! *flail*
Dr Who
So I just started watching this again after many, many years. (That Mark Sheppard AND Neil Gaiman are involved this season may have had something to do with that.) The three elder hellmonkeys are watching too and loving it as much as I did at their ages. Since I'm unfamiliar with most of the new canon, I don't have much commentary other than to say that we're really enjoying the hell out of this show.
And it was a very good Mark Sheppard week.<3
